The Mission of the Community Development Department is to serve the City of Newport by developing and implementing strategies designed to allow for sustainable growth and infrastructure improvement in a manner that will preserve its unique characteristics and enhance the quality of life for the City's present and future residents.

Community Development currently provides planning and zoning services, building inspection and permitting services, codes enforcement services and tourism.

Planning and zoning is the first stop for any new development project in the City of Newport. Staff will assist applicants in obtaining the proper permits.

Inspection services are provided by the building official who oversees the building permit process.

Codes enforcement and compliance is overseen by the Codes Enforcement Officer.

Tourism services currently include the Tourism Information Center located inside the Historic Tanner Building on Mulberry Street. Tourism's main focus is the downtown area and the Main Street community.
