Recreation Youth Basketball
The City of Newport and Newport Parks and Recreation currently offers a youth basketball program for the city of Newport and the residents of Cocke County. Newport Parks and Recreation is the booster league site for the Newport Grammar School Warriors. The focuses of the league are developing the skills of every young athlete while reinforcing good sportsmanship and teaching life lessons in a competitive environment. The Newport Parks and Recreation enters their teams into the league with other elementary booster programs at the Cocke County Rec Center. For more information about the league or entering your child into the upcoming basketball league, please call (423) 623-7304 or email bnorton@newporttn.org. The Newport Parks and Recreation Athletic Department also has a Facebook page and is listed under "Newport Parks and Recreation Athletic Department". League Information Registration begins on Monday, October 15th and will end on Saturday, November 3. All registrations will take place at the Newport Community Center. All registrations turned in after the deadline on November 3 will be charged a late fee of $5.00 dependent on space available. Sign up times Monday - Thursday 9:00AM - 5:00PM Friday - 7:00AM - 4:00PM Saturday Novermber 3 10:00AM -2:00PM Fee: $40.00 (includes reversible jersey top)
All player evaluations will be held at the Newport Community Center.
Important Dates to Remember
Monday October 15- Registration Begins Saturday November 3 – Registration Ends Tuesday November 6 7-8 Boys Evaluations 5:00 9-10 Boys Evaluations 7:00 Drafts will follow each player evaluation period. Saturday November 3 10:00 AM Coaches Meeting - Prepare to stay at least 2 hours to cover all materials. Tuesday November 6 - Split Coed Teams with Coaches Thursday November 8 - Practice Locations All practices will be held at the Newport Community Center. Game Locations All home games will be played at the Newport Community Center. There will be some Fridays and/or Saturdays where your team may play at another location. Those locations could be at a local Cocke County elementary school or at the Cocke County Rec Department. Important Links
